Water Well Construction for children in Alkuhfah Village
Sansaar Care provided charitable funding to Islamic Help to support the construction of a solar-powered water well in Alkuhfah Village, Taiz Governorate, Yemen.
The project was completed and reported in November 2025 and delivers sustainable access to clean, safe water for a rural community significantly affected by conflict and poverty.
The intervention was intentionally selected for its direct and long-term benefit to children, recognising that lack of access to safe water disproportionately harms children’s health, education, and safety.
Identified Need and Context
Communities in Taiz Governorate face chronic water scarcity compounded by conflict-related infrastructure damage. Prior to the project, families — including children — were required to travel long distances to collect limited quantities of unsafe water.
Children in Alkuhfah Village faced heightened risks including:
- Waterborne diseases such as cholera, amoeba, and giardia
- Lost education time due to water collection responsibilities
- Exposure to physical danger during long journeys to fetch water
Sansaar Care identified a clear need to support a sustainable water solution that would protect children’s health, free children’s time for education, and reduce daily safeguarding risks.
Beneficiaries and Public Benefit
The completed water well serves 350 households, supporting approximately 2,590 individuals, a significant proportion of whom are children.
Children are the primary beneficiaries through:
- Reliable access to clean drinking water
- Reduced exposure to preventable illness
- Improved school attendance and learning opportunities
- Reduced burden on children, particularly girls, who previously spent up to three hours per day collecting water
Public benefit is delivered through improved child health, safety, and educational access, alongside broader community wellbeing.
Support Delivered
The project delivered a fully operational solar-powered water well system, including:
- 2,000-litre water storage tanks
- Four water taps
- Separate drinking basins for animals
This infrastructure provides a long-term, sustainable water source designed to meet daily household needs and ensure consistent access for children and families.
The project was completed and formally reported to headquarters on 15 November 2025.
Outcomes and Impact
The documented child-focused impacts of the project include:
- Immediate reduction in waterborne disease risk affecting children
- Increased safety for children no longer undertaking long, dangerous water journeys
- Significant time savings enabling children to attend school and engage in learning
- Improved dignity and quality of life for children and families
As a Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity) project, the well continues to deliver daily benefit to children long after completion.
Risk, Safeguarding, and Governance Considerations
Islamic Help managed construction and implementation using established delivery, safeguarding, and accountability procedures. Sansaar Care’s governance role focused on:
- Ensuring funds were applied to a clearly child-benefiting, sustainable intervention
- Retaining completion and impact confirmation
- Managing risk through partnership with a regulated, experienced charity
Safeguarding responsibility for ongoing use of the infrastructure rests with the community and delivery partner.
Learning and Future Application
This case study demonstrates Sansaar Care’s commitment to:
- Supporting long-term infrastructure projects that benefit children
- Investing in interventions that improve child health, education, and safety simultaneously
